Developed by Joseph Pilates, born in 1883 in a small German town near Dusseldorf. This method of exercise was designed in the 20th century and based on a thorough understanding of the human body. Pilates is not a cookie cutter workout, designed to bring awareness of the way we us use our bodies focusing on breath, balance, control and stability through a series of exercises. Facilitating this method Pilates exercises are performed on multiple pieces of equipment including the Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector and Tower. Other than the Ladder Barrel and Spine Corrector all equipment utilizes spring tension and pully systems to provide feedback to the body while providing alignment and efficient movement.

The type of Pilates used at Purely Pilates incorporates a rehabilitation-based Pilates approach and followed by the approach designed by Dr. Brent Anderson of Polestar Pilates.
